Candle Recipe
2024-03-19
The main raw material for candles is paraffin wax, which is made from the wax-containing fraction of petroleum by cold pressing or solvent dewaxing. Paraffin is a mixture of higher alkanes, consisting mainly of n-docosane (C22H46) and n-octadecane (C28H58), containing about 85% carbon and 14% hydrogen. When making candles, some auxiliary materials can also be added, such as white oil, stearic acid, polyethylene and flavorings, etc., of which stearic acid is mainly used to improve the softness of candles.123
When making candles, different formulas can be chosen according to the needs. For example, the formula for regular candles includes wax, palmitic acid Strat, coloring agents, and candle fragrances. The process involves melting the wax and the palmitate Strat, adding the colorant and fragrance, and then installing the wick in a candle mold, pouring in the wax solution, and waiting for it to solidify before removing the candle and trimming the wick to length.4
There are also other types of candle recipes such as beeswax candles, salami candles, and coconut oil candles, which use beeswax, salami flavored oil, and coconut oil, respectively, as the main ingredients, and can add different fragrances and colorings as needed.
There are also some tips and precautions to keep in mind when making candles, such as avoiding sources of ignition and molten substances, being careful when using food dyes, and trimming the length of the wax wick after the candle has cooled. Choosing proper candle molds and wicks is also important, and fragrances should be added in moderation so as not to affect the burning effect.
